Gherkins Update

Good news from the Gherkins (Refugee Sponsorship group):

 THANK YOU to everyone who purchased or sports an original Gherkins “Be Kind” t-shirt or tote!  We also give thanks for the generous collaboration of all the talented individuals from the arts to the academic & First Nations communities who donated their skills and time to help bring this idea to fruition.  As a result, over 600 t-shirts & totes were purchased by over 150 people, thereby bringing us $7,000 closer to our fundraising goal.  With this, we’ve raised nearly $59,000 of the total $79,000 needed for this sponsorship of a family group of 8: 4 children and 4 adults.

Exciting update:  the family in Jordan had a first round of interviews at the end of January. We are hopeful that their processing will go forward smoothly so they can travel in the second half of 2021, all being well . . .

As our historically successful fundraising events remain impossible in the current climate, we continue to look for ways to achieve our fundraising goal.  In the meantime, donations continue to be most gratefully accepted.  Cheques can be made out (and posted) to St. Dunstan’s with “Refugee Sponsorship” in the memo line.
