Canada Connection : Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador

In the Anglican Church of Canada Cycle of Prayer for the week of 14 February 2021 we pray for The Rt Rev Sam Rose, Bishop, and the people and clergy of the Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador.
The diocese was formed in 1976 from a division of the 1873 Diocese of Newfoundland (diocesan history here), but "the earliest presence of the Anglican Church in Newfoundland and Labrador can be traced to stopovers by various military chaplains and visiting clerics in the 16th and 17th centuries," and the first resident clergyman was appointed in 1701."The Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador is spread over 38 parishes on the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland and throughout most of Labrador." [1] It has been hard hit financially by the 2020 pandemic.
The diocese is situated in the traditional territories of the Beothuk, Mi'kmaq, Innu and Inuit First Nations.
