In the Anglican Church of Canada Cycle of Prayer for the week of 7 February 2021 we pray for The Rt. Rev. John Watton, Bishop, and the people and clergy of the Diocese of Central Newfoundland.
The diocese was formed in 1975 from a division of the 1873 Diocese of Newfoundland (diocesan history here). "The Central Diocese encompasses a large geographical area of the island portion of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Our boundaries extend west to Badger in the Parish of Buchans, we include the south coast of Newfoundland both south to the Parish of Harbour Breton and all of the Burin Peninsula. Our eastern boundaries extend to the Parish of St. Mary’s, Clarenville, then north to Bonavista and that area on the northeast coast as far as the two parishes located on Fogo Island. There are 28 parishes and 94 churches within the Diocese." [1]
The diocese is situated in the traditional territories of the Beothuk and Mi'kmaq First Nations.
